Located on Omirou street, this church dates from the 15th century. Many successive additions and alterations have over the centuries been brought to the original construction, starting from a first extension on the western flank before some more decisive alterations were attempted in view of the church’s conversion into a mosque and culminating with the excavation and restoration works launched in 1996 and brought to completion some four years later.
Excavations eventually unearthed tombs as well as coins dating from the 15th century AD, along with Hellenistic period coins (4th – 1st century BC), mostly found in the surrounding premises, outside the church. During the Ottoman rule, the church functioned as a mosque under the name of “Hundaï Mescit”.
