The building of what has come to be designated as the “New Synagogue” in Medieval Rhodes, is located on Dosiadou street, in the Jewish Quarter. A precise dating of the complex has to this day been impossible. It is estimated to have been constructed after the end of the rule of the Knights; still, it remains one of the earliest-built synagogues in Greece. Its official name is “Kahal Kadosh Shalom”, meaning “the Holy Synagogue of Peace”. Within short distance from the New Synagogue, there used to be an even earlier one, known as “Kahal Gadol”.
This monument is open to the public whilst it continues to host the religious functions of the Jewish Community of Rhodes. After the restoration works, the premises host a Jewish Museum.
